Let me start with a bold truth: A lot of the things we’re begging God for—we already have.

We don’t lack provision nearly as much as we lack participation.

At Berkshire Hathaway’s annual meeting, Warren Buffett recently shocked everyone by announcing his retirement. But what stuck with me wasn’t his career milestone—it was this quote:

“You’ll measure [wealth] by how many people really love you in the end. You can buy attention, you can buy your name on a building, but you can’t buy love.”

He’s right. And if you’ve ever sat by the hospital bed of a loved one, or faced your own mortality, you know exactly what he means. It’s not the flashy things we remember. It’s the meaningful things—the relationships, the connections, the love.

There’s even a study that confirms this: among older adults, life satisfaction is deeply tied not to the quantity of social interactions, but to the quality. We don’t need more noise. We need more meaning. And that’s true of our faith walk, too.

In Your Face Grace: Don’t Mistake the Buzz for His Presence

Some of us are chasing what we think is God—energy, excitement, emotional highs—when what we really need is presence. We mistake passion and pleasure for the presence of God. But we’re so caught up, we miss that He’s already right here.

We’re not coming for horizons—we’re coming for Him.

2 Peter 1 reminds us powerfully of this:

“His divine power has given us everything required for life and godliness…” (2 Peter 1:3)

Let that sink in.

You’re not waiting on a lightning bolt from heaven. You’re not missing a spiritual download. You don’t need to earn it.

You already have access.

Everything you need to live a godly life—a victorious, meaningful, fruitful life—has already been given to you through the knowledge of Jesus. You’re not missing anything. The only thing missing might be your participation in what He’s already placed in you.

You’re Already Ready

Some of us keep asking God for more faith, more strength, more patience. And I get that—but Peter reminds us: we’ve been given everything already.

I love this about Peter’s story. When was he “ready”? When he walked on water? When Jesus changed his name? When he got everything right?

No. Peter was ready when Jesus called him. Because readiness in the Kingdom isn’t about credentials or perfection—it’s about surrender. It’s about grace.Everything we need is given to us, not gained by us.

Let me say it plainly: You’re not disqualified—you’re distracted.

Your pride doesn’t make this room better. Your envy doesn’t.Your arrogance doesn’t.

But you—the real, surrendered, grace-filled you—make this room better.

Grace That Confronts

Peter writes that we should “make every effort” to grow in our faith—adding goodness, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly affection, and love (2 Peter 1:5–7).This isn’t self-reliant striving. This is cooperation with grace.

Grace isn’t passive. It doesn’t pat you on the back and say, “Stay stuck.” Grace says, “Let’s grow. Let’s move. Let’s become.”

But in order to grow, we’ve got to let go.Let go of ego.Let go of appearance.Let go of control.

There’s this concept in yoga—yes, I said yoga!—that the deeper you want to go in your practice, the more you have to release. The more you force it, the more you struggle. Breakthrough doesn’t come through strain. It comes through surrender.

The same is true in the Kingdom of God.

You’re Stopping You

Peter warns that if we don’t grow in these qualities, we’ll become blind and shortsighted, forgetting that we’ve already been cleansed from our past sins (v. 9).

How often do we forget who we are? How often do we get stuck in cycles of shame, pride, or fear—when Jesus has already set us free?

I shared this illustration recently: A worm crawling through the dirt doesn’t realize that the dirt is no longer its home. Grace lifts us out—but we keep going back because it’s familiar.

Grace will confront you. It’ll grab you by the shoulders and lovingly say, “Let go. I’ve got something better.

And when you do? Peter says you’ll “never stumble.” Not because life gets easy—but because your foundation is firm.

Confirm Your Calling

This passage ends with a challenge and a promise:

“Make every effort to confirm your calling and election… For in this way, entry into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ will be richly provided for you.” (2 Peter 1:10–11)

You don’t earn salvation—but you live like someone who’s been changed. You walk in a way that reflects your calling. Because His great and precious promises give you a clean slate—and a new life unlike anything this world can offer.

So friend, here’s the question: Are you making every effort?

Are you trusting deeper, even when it’s uncomfortable?

Because grace doesn’t call you to try harder. Grace calls you to trust deeper.

Jesus said, “Come, follow Me. ”That’s not just a suggestion—it’s a lifeline. It’s an invitation into the life you were already made for.

If this encouraged you, take a moment today to read 2 Peter 1 again. Meditate on what’s already yours in Christ—and let grace confront and comfort you.

We’re in this together.
